March 12, 2024 – More than a month after a successful season opener at Daytona International Speedway, Tyler Gonzalez is reuniting with Victor Gonzalez Racing Team this weekend for the second round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) at Sebring International Raceway. Pulling double duty yet again, Gonzalez will also compete in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin with Saito Motorsports.
In the BMW M Endurance Challenge of Daytona, a four-hour-long race, Gonzalez, alongside co-driver Victor Gonzalez, piloted the #99 Hyundai Veloster to a tenth-place finish in the TCR class.
“Tenth last time out was a solid finish, especially since we had some bad luck in qualifying,” Tyler Gonzalez explained. “I think we have some good momentum heading into this weekend, and we’ll be pushing hard to get an even better result.”
The weekend kicks off at the 3.74-mile, 17-corner circuit Wednesday morning with practice one, with practice two scheduled for Thursday morning. The Michelin Pilot Challenge Field will qualify on Thursday afternoon, and the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 will take place on Friday afternoon.
Gonzalez continued, “Sebring is my home track, and when I raced in Trans Am there last month, I finished on the podium, so I’m confident that I can race well there this weekend.”
Also competing in the MX-5 Cup, Gonzalez sits third in the championship standings after some decent results back in January in Daytona. Poised for more on-track action than most drivers this weekend, Gonzalez will look to turn that track time into success in Sebring.
“I am third in the MX-5 Cup point standings after one weekend and the goal is to be consistent and be there at the end,” continued Gonzalez. “I would like nothing more to leave Sebring with a few more pieces of racing hardware.”
