“Wargo set to join J3 Competition for Rotax karting events”
June 20, 2024 – 206, Road Race, and 2-cycle driver Derek Wargo moved his equipment to the newly formed DYL KartSport a year ago, shortly after accepting a Drive Your Line Kart Shop Sponsored ride. Well accomplished in 206 racing, Wargo found himself as the 2023 Cup Karts North America (CKNA) South Division Champion, multiple second and third-place results in 206 and 2-cycle classes in Texas Sprint Racing Series (TSRS) Championship, and back-to-back Daytona wins on two different tracks. Additionally, this past weekend, Derek finished first and third at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course running a kart at nearly 95 miles per hour.
Effective June 6, Wargo, an all-As Honor Roll Student on the Honor Society at Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology in Avondale, Louisiana, has become the newest Junior driver signed to the Compkart Factory Team. This includes the remaining Rotax events on the 2024 schedule. Options for the 2025 season are also on the table for all 2-cycle race events. Drive Your Line owner Christy Kendall finds this bittersweet development something for her and partner Allen Cox to celebrate!
“When we offered a sponsorship to the Wargo family for Derek, we wanted to see him break into the 2-cycle Junior classes. Allen and I watched Derek for almost two seasons before bringing him into our fold. The partnership became the foundation for the DYL KartSport competition team. We knew we didn’t want to create a team where you hand us a check and walk away. We wanted families involved; we wanted our drivers to learn, work, train, and find success together. We wanted to put an old-school twist on our team model. We are very much a work in progress as a team. Derek has proved to be an outstanding driver, a young man of character, and very professional.”
Kendall continued, “When our team manager, Rett Thomas, took this young team under his wing, we knew this would be something special. Rett and Derek work well together, and Derek has developed quickly under Rett’s watchful eye. Sadly, we will lose him. But what better accolades than having one of your young drivers offered a factory ride from the chassis manufacturer, your dealership, shop, and team all work with? That is icing on the cake. It’s like being in the minors and getting called to the majors. I know I speak for the whole team when I say we are all proud of Derek, and it will be exciting to see where his career takes him.”
The first race for Wargo as a Compkart Factory driver will be the Rotax East event on June 21-23 at Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati. He will continue his Road Race and 2-cycle Sprint commitments with DYL KartSport and Drive Your Line for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Derek Wargo would like to thank NUPI Americas, Ferguson Enterprises, DYL Kartsport, Socias Roofing, Tim Morales and Associates, and Pankow Roofing for their continued support.
