Dubbin – This Team Is heading In The ‘Right Direction’ After Positive Brainerd Weekend

Dean Dubbin says things are trending “in a positive direction” for the Dubbin Motorsports A/Fuel Dragster. The DMP Awnings – Kentex backed team finished with a second-round loss at the Lucas Oil Nations this past weekend at Brainerd International Raceway.

Dubbin believes the team still needs to find more consistency.

“It was a good weekend,” reflected Dubbin. “Of course, you always want more, but looking back at the runs we made, we can be happy with our weekend.”

“Qualifying second was a great accomplishment when you look at the quality of teams entered in this race. Round one was a strong performance, but we still lack consistency, and we are looking at everything on the car for the cause. Something is keeping us from running those strong numbers round after round. We have the power, and when we get our consistency back we will be a threat to win again.”

As it Happened:

Constant rain interruptions would hamper qualifying, making every trip down the race track very important for each team.

In the first qualifying session all you can say is the car went “nowhere”. Dubbin stepped on the peddle and the car just didn’t respond, causing him to  shut the car off and coast to the finish line. This placed Dubbin in #14 spot on the ladder.

Returning in session two after replacing all the ignition components and some damaged engine components the car responded with a strong run (5.295 272.67 mph) that landed Dubbin in the number two (2) position.

Rain would end qualifying early and cause a disrupted ladder where very strong running teams that struggled in the first two sessions found themselves with matchups usually seen much later in the race day. This scenario presented the Dubbin team with an undesirable matchup with the strong running McPhillips car driven by Matt Cummings.

Dubbin was ready for the challenge and handed Cummings, and the McPhillips Team a rare first round loss.

Round two greeted the Dubbin Team with a matchup against Madison Payne. Payne’s car rolled deep as she had problems holding the car at the line. But, she would stay in the beams long enough to get the green light and a great reaction time of .012. Dubbin left the line strong but was spinning the tires before 60 feet and had to abandon the run as the car headed toward the wall.
